The Green Party has revealed its initial list of candidates for the 2023 election, on Monday, which will now be used to guide the membership voting process. Co-leaders James Shaw and Marama Davidson expressed their confidence in the diverse and experienced group of candidates, emphasising the importance of the upcoming election in shaping Aotearoa's future.

The Green Party aims to set the direction of the next government, focusing on faster climate action, nature protection, and wealth rebalancing to ensure every family has the necessary resources. Shaw praised the achievements of Green Party MPs over the past five years but acknowledged the pace of change must accelerate.

Davidson highlighted the party's Te Tiriti-based foundation and the strong Māori voice represented in the initial list. She expressed her excitement to work with both returning and new candidates who bring fresh and diverse ideas to the table. The co-leaders believe the 2023 election is the best opportunity to elect a government committed to building a climate-friendly Aotearoa that benefits everyone.
